When is the Best Time to Perform Aqiqah?

When Should Aqiqah Be Performed? (7th, 14th & 21st Day)

Aqiqah is a beautiful Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ performed to thank Allah for the blessing of a newborn child. According to authentic Islamic teachings, the preferred day for Aqiqah is the 7th day after the baby's birth. On this day, it is also recommended to name the child and shave the baby's hair.

If it is not possible to perform Aqiqah on the 7th day, many Islamic scholars state that it may be performed on the 14th or 21st day. If these days are also missed, Aqiqah can still be performed later whenever it becomes possible.

What Happens on the Day of Aqiqah? A healthy animal is selected according to Islamic guidelines. The sacrifice is performed in the name of Allah. The baby's hair is shaved (Sunnah). The child is given a good Islamic name (if not already named). The meat is distributed among family, friends, and those in need. Why Perform Aqiqah?

Aqiqah is an act of gratitude to Allah and a way to follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It brings happiness to the family, strengthens community bonds through sharing meat, and allows deserving families to benefit from the blessing.
